Welcome to Michael Costello's Webpage - South Blackburn, Melbourne, Australia.

Welcome to my webpage!

Hi! I'm Michael Costello, a 37 year old from South Blackburn in Melbourne, Australia.  .

I'm a former volunteer for Northern Access Television, a community television production group. However, after at least five frustrating years of not being able to finish video projects I have started, I have decided to stop trying to produce Community TV programs of my own. I was a Committee Member for NAT for many years up until September 2010, and finally resigned from the group a year later in September 2011.
Click here for a story I wrote about my time with Community TV in happier times in 2004.  The shows mentioned on the last page however never got finished, and never aired.

For fun, I do some Inline Skating, although I have to drive quite a distance away from home to find suitable paths, so I don't get to skate as often as I would like.  I also recently got a bike again, but at the moment, it doesn't leave the shed very much!

I was also a Volunteer for the Inline Speed Skaters in the Skate Victoria Speed Branch, where I used to assist in providing and setting up PA and other gear for their main events at Dandenong Showgrounds. For about a year in 2009, I also video taped their races and posted them online.  For personal reasons, I have been forced to resign from this position.

Between 1993 and 1995, I was a Melbourne Tram Conductor, working out of the old (and now knocked down) South Melbourne Tram Depot.  I was there for a total of 19 months. For more, click here.

It was this job (and how it ended) that led to me finding out I have Asperger's Syndrome, where a "love" of transport is a very common thing! (If only I could have turned it into a love of passengers as well….!)

So my main interest areas? Transport and Television!  My interest in transport has gone up and down like a yo-yo over the years.  For a few years, I was a volunteer Conductor at the Tramway Museum at Bylands, near Kilmore, but I resigned from the The Tramway Museum Society of Victoria in 2010, after the election of a new board that I have "no faith" in.

My interest in Television led me to C31 Melbourne, where I have volunteered in various things like working in the Presentation Control Room, etc, but I left that when the stress of life in the Control Room got too much for me. But I do miss being involved in putting the station to air, which is now done by a Computer System (boo!).

However
C31 Melbourne is sadly now nothing like the fun, community orientated station I joined in 1995, and as I can't get involved in the Operations area of the station (due to paid scum holding down all the positions), I no longer watch the station.  It has gone all "professional" and the people like me who learnt there skills on the job are no longer really welcome at the station.  I also dislike the "look and feel" of C31, all generic looking crap that in no way reflects Melbourne

But in general, Television (and the history of Television) has been an interest all my life, but I fondly remember when it was "nice" and not full of people killing each other!  I also remember when it was "local".

This is a shot of me in my "replica" Green Uniform on 17/4/05  -the first day that I used this new clothing at the Tramway Museum.

Sadly, getting this uniform made was a waste, as I have now resigned from the Tramway Museum, because of a new Board of Management.

Thanks to Berensen Tailors for the
uniform. More photos here from 93 - 95.
